Abdul Carter is back on campus at Penn State. Carter, the potential No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft, watched the Nittany Lions’ opening spring practice on Wednesday ahead of pro day. But Carter will not work out in front of scouts, coaches and executives on Friday.
Carter will not test at Penn State’s pro day, according to a Thursday report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Schefter spoke to agent Drew Rosenhaus, who represents Carter.
“He is still finishing up rehab on the shoulder injury he had from the Boise State game,” Rosenhaus told Schefter. “He may still do a workout for teams sometime in mid-April.”
Carter did not work out at the NFL combine last month in Indianapolis due to a pair of injury concerns, but the Penn State star was expected at that time to work out in Holuba Hall.
Turns out, Carter is still recovering from a shoulder injury he suffered in the College Football Playoff quarterfinal against Boise State. The explosive edge rusher played through that injury at a high level in the CFP semifinal loss to Notre Dame.
At the combine, Schefter reported that Carter had a stress reaction in his right foot, and that Carter was considering surgery. He decided not to undergo surgery for the issue.
While Carter won’t be working out at Friday’s pro day, he is still expected to attend.
Tight end Tyler Warren, a projected first-round pick, is expected to draw a crowd. Several other Penn State draft prospects — K.J. Winston, Jaylen Reed, Kobe King, Sal Wormley and Jalen Kimber, among them — will look to impress NFL scouts and coaches in attendance.
