Report: Man Utd wanted ‘special’ Brazilian talent, he’s now valued at £50m despite just six league starts

Manchester United are expected to move for a new goalkeeper this summer as Ruben Amorim switches up his option between the sticks.

The summer transfer window is moving closer and closer, with Manchester United needing major reinforcements.

Ruben Amorim won’t have the biggest budget this summer, but the United boss will want additions across the pitch.

RB Leipzig playmaker Xavi Simons is wanted at United, whilst Amorim remains interested in Sporting star Francisco Trincao.

United want striker Hugo Ekitike too but may still be keeping a close eye on one of his Eintracht Frankfurt teammates.

Manchester United have shown Kaua Santos interest

Reports from Sport Bild suggest that United wanted to sign Eintracht Frankfurt stopper Kaua Santos last summer.

It’s stated that United expressed a real interest in signing Santos, but he decided to sign a new contract instead.

The Brazilian is now valued at €60million (£50million), a far cry from the €1.6million (£1.3million) he cost two years ago.

Santos joined Eintracht Frankfurt from Flamengo in 2023, despite failing to ever make a first-team appearance for the Brazilian side.

After featuring in the Eintracht Frankfurt II team last season, the 21-year-old has shown some potential this term.

As quoted by the official Bundesliga website, teammate Robin Koch suggested that Santos has ‘something special’ in his game.

Santos has only played six games in the Bundesliga and another three in the Europa League this season and remains behind Kevin Trapp in the pecking order.

United may still be interested in Santos, but certainly won’t be paying £50million for his signature off the back of six league displays – even with suggestions that he will be Brazil’s future number one after Alisson steps aside.

Expect Manchester United to sign goalkeepers this summer

United would have been interested in Santos as a talent for the future; a player who could sit behind Andre Onana and develop in the background.

Ineos just aren’t in a position to spend £50million on that kind of player right now though, especially with other areas needing attention.

We would still expect United to sign goalkeepers this summer, even if the speculation linking Onana with a move to Saudi Arabia doesn’t pay off.

Altay Bayindir may fancy first-team action elsewhere, whilst veteran stopper Tom Heaton is expected to leave United at the end of his contract this summer.

Reports ahead of the January transfer window suggested that Amorim wanted to sign two goalkeepers to bolster his options.

Young stoppers such as Santos will surely be on the radar, but spending £50million on such a player surely isn’t in the plans.
