Nottingham Forest have been handed a huge injury blow before their Premier League clash at home to Manchester United on Tuesday (8pm kick-off).

United will be looking to continue their positive momentum when they travel to the City Ground next week. The Reds earned a credible 1-1 draw against Arsenal before thrashing Real Sociedad 4-1 and Leicester City 3-0 heading into the international break.

Ruben Amorim's team will not be in action this weekend, with the FA Cup quarter-finals taking place instead of any top-flight fixtures. United's next opponents will be playing though with Forest travelling to Brighton in the last eight before hosting Amorim's men in midweek.

And the Tricky Trees will be without top goalscorer Chris Wood when they face Fabian Hurzeler's side on Saturday after the striker was injured while on international duty for New Zealand.

The 33-year-old had a scan before he returned to the UK and has undergone another one on Thursday since his return to Nottingham. The East Midlands club are sweating on the outcome of that assessment as they wait to discover the extent of Wood’s problem.

However, Forest head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has said the forward will be unavailable for their quarter-final at Brighton. The news casts doubt on his participation against United just three days later.

“He went for a scan today and we are still waiting for the result,” Nuno said in his pre-match press conference. “He went to see a specialist to do the scan, so we will wait on the information.

“He is not going to be available for this game. He fell really hard on his hip and there is pain there, so we have to wait.”

Forest, currently third in the Premier League, beat United 3-2 in their last meeting in December. Nuno's men are chasing an unexpected place in next season's Champions League, a competition United could also be participating in if they win the Europa League in May.
