Arsenal close to agreeing new contract with key player

Arsenal are set to be on the hunt for attacking reinforcements when the transfer window reopens this summer.

The Gunners have struggled with injuries to several attacking players this season, including Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz.

Both Jesus and Havertz have been ruled out for the remainder of the current campaign, meaning head coach Mikel Arteta has been forced to use players – including midfielder Mikel Merino – as a makeshift striker in recent weeks.

With that in mind, the North London side are likely to want to bolster Arteta’s squad in attack during this summer’s window.

It appears, though, that the club are also working to ensure they keep hold of their most important attacking players.

As per Football Insider, Arsenal are close to reaching an agreement with teenage sensational Ethan Nwaneri about a new contract.

The 18-year-old made his debut for the Gunners during the 2022/23 campaign and also featured once for the club last term, but this season he has established himself as an important player in Arteta’s squad.

In total he has played 29 times across all competitions so far this season, scoring eight goals and registering a single assist.

The teenager’s current contract with Arsenal is set to expire in 2027, but the report suggests that the player could soon sign a new long-term deal with Arsenal who are prepared to reward him and recognise his importance to the team.

Fellow Premier League sides Manchester City and Chelsea are both said to have been keeping tabs on Nwaneri, however the youngster is set to put an end to any speculation surrounding his future by signing an extension with his current side.

The report claims that Nwaneri is ‘very happy’ at The Emirates and has no intention of leaving the club any time soon, with negotiations over a new deal having been ‘easy’.
