Italian side chasing Liverpool captain Van Dijk

Liverpool have the opportunity to move a step closer to being crowned Premier League champions when they face rivals Everton in the Merseyside derby in early April.

The Reds have been in scintillating form for almost the entire season, and had been in with a chance of winning an unprecedented quadruple until recently.

Exits from the FA Cup and Champions League, as well as a Carabao Cup final defeat at the hands of Newcastle United, mean Arne Slot’s side can now only win the league title this term.

They boast a healthy 12-point lead over second-placed Arsenal with just nine games remaining, but Slot will be desperate to see his side get the better of the Toffees and move a step closer to the title when they return to action.

Away from the action, Liverpool are also contending with speculation surrounding the futures of three key players; namely Virgil Van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Now, it has emerged that club captain Van Dijk is attracting interest from one of Europe’s biggest clubs.

As reported by CaughtOffside, the Dutch defender is attracting increasing interest from Serie A giants Inter Milan.

Van Dijk’s current contract is set to expire at the end of the season

The report claims that the Italian side’s president, Beppe Marotta, is spearheading Inter’s pursuit of Van Dijk.

While the Italian side haven’t yet formalised their interest in the player, the report claims that they have asked to be kept informed about the centre-back’s situation as he approaches the final weeks of his current contract.

Van Dijk, 33, joined Liverpool from Southampton in 2018 and has since played more than 300 times for the Merseyside outfit across all competitions.

Despite their interest, the report also claims that Inter have several other defenders on their shortlist of potential transfer targets.
