Report: Liverpool now want to sign £40m defender who has been linked to Manchester City

There’s an ocean between Liverpool and Manchester City in the Premier League table right now, with 22 points between the two.

Liverpool, coming into this season under a new boss in Arne Slot, might have expected more of a fight from Manchester City in the race for Premier League this season. But it’s Liverpool’s to lose with nine games left to play.

Last time out, Man City drew 2-2 with Brighton, throwing away a least twice to succumb to yet another relatively disappointing result; although in the grand scheme of this season, drawing at home to Brighton isn’t half bad for City.

Next season, Pep Guardiola will hope for huge improvements. We could yet see a vastly different City XI compared to now with Manchester City set for a summer overhaul and some big-earning, long-standing names set to leave, including Kevin De Bruyne although he’s open to staying at Manchester City.

Liverpool will also be busy in the transfer market as they look to maintain what will surely be a Premier League crown this season.

Liverpool join Man City in race for Newcastle United’s Tino Livramento

One player linked as part of the Man City rebuild is Tino Livramento at Newcastle United. Already, Man City are keen on signing Bruno Guimaraes at St James’ Park, but recent reports have revealed that Man City are interested in Livramento as well; someone who Eddie Howe is a big fan of.

Howe is frustrated by Livramento’s links to Man City, insisting that he wants to see his side linked with these types of exciting young players and not other clubs being linked with his. But that won’t stop City and now Liverpool from shopping around, with GIVEMESPORT revealing the Reds’ interest.

With Trent Alexander-Arnold looking set for Real Madrid, Slot is looking around for new full-backs and GIVEMESPORT say that Livramento is an option for his Liverpool side, albeit only an option at this moment in time. Newcastle signed Livramento from Southampton in 2023, in a deal rising up to £40million.

Where would Tino Livramento get more game time – Man City or Liverpool?

When Trent leaves Liverpool, both they and Man City will be very light on options at right-back with City boasting just the young Rico Lewis, albeit with Abdukodir Khusanov able to play there, and Liverpool having Conor Bradley.

Expect Pep and Slot to want both Lewis and Bradley to become the long-term options in that spot, though both managers will know that they can’t solely rely on just having one right-back, so back-up will be needed.

Given that, then, Livramento may get equal amounts of gametime at both Liverpool and Man City: possibly slightly more at City knowing how much Pep likes to rotate.

But it all depends on who comes in for him. Even then, it’s down to whether or not Newcastle United cave in, which seems unlikely given their lofty ambitions.
