Barcelona capitalize on first chance

The hosts opened the scoring with their first opportunity on goal. A loose pass from Popp was intercepted by Ewa Pajor, who passed to Paraluello. With plenty of space, Paraluello charged towards goalkeeper Borbe. She guided her shot to the far corner, finding the back of the net.

Conceding the early goal made the match even more difficult for The Wolves. Scoring three goals against FC Barcelona is no easy feat. Unfortunately for the visitors, they conceded the second only ten minutes later, once again from Paralluelo. The goal was assisted by Brugts, who found Paraluello in the box with plenty of space to slot it home.

Dominant display from FC Barcelona

When playing against a team like Barcelona, you expect to have less possesion throughout the game. Wolfsburg saw very little of the ball and did not get anywhere near the opponents box.

The Wolves had no answer for the explosivness and fast pace of Barcelona. The home team scored their third before half-time, with Esmee Brugts finding the net from outside the box, surprising Borbe with her effort.

Second Half: Barcelona leads with 7-1 on aggregate

Both sides made a changes at the break: Peddemors on for Hegering and Engen replaced Paredes. However, it made little difference as Barcelona continued to control the match. Wolfsburg came close to getting a shot on target but Popp’s effort went wide. Around the one-hour mark the following changes were made:

Ewa Pajor was replaced by Pina.

Popp and Linder off for Huth and Wedemeyer.

Pina adds her name to the scoresheet

FC Barcelona score their fourth of the night when Pina found the back of the net just minutes after coming on. Pina palyed a quick 1-2 with Putellas, which ended with her free in the box as defenders Dijkstra and Lattweinn completely lost.

Brugts and Patri off for Schertenleib and Rolfö.

Beerensteyn pulled one back

The Dutch international was only on the pitch for less than a minute before scoring Wolfsburg’s only goal of the night. Barcelona made a rare mistake at the back, something they hadn’t done earlier in the game. Blomqvist ran through on Cata Coll, who failed to clear the ball porperly. Beerensteyn was their to shoot the deflected ball in an empty net.

Pina on the scoresheet again

This time, she scored from a free kick. Her effort bounced in from the post, leaving Borbe without a chance of stopping it. Barcelona now led 5-1.

Jule Brand on for Endemann.

The final ten minutes

It must have been an incredibly difficult match to see through until the end for VfL Wolfsburg. With ten more mintues remaining, the players kept pushing forward, trying to salvage whatever they could. The club has accomplished plenty in the Women’s Champions League, including winning the title twice and consistently reaching the quarter-finals or further. This season, however, they were beaten by FC Barcelona, 10-2 on aggregate. Mapi Leon scored the final goal of the match from a free kick in stoppage time.
