Tottenham eye shock move for Aston Villa forward this summer

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly eyeing a shock move for an Aston Villa forward this summer, just months after his arrival at Villa Park.

One could argue that Tottenham Hotspur need additional depth in the forward line. Of course, the Lilywhites have not struggled for goals this season, particularly in the Premier League, where they have netted 55 times in 29 matches—averaging 1.9 goals per game.

However, Tottenham still need depth in attack. Indeed, at one point, Spurs had to navigate a spell without attackers such as Timo Werner, Brennan Johnson, Wilson Odobert, Mikey Moore, and Dominic Solanke.

While they have since returned, the squad’s vulnerability has been exposed, making a case for further attacking options.

Tottenham Hotspur looking at shock move for Donyell Malen

There have already been murmurs surrounding Richarlison’s future at Tottenham, with speculation that he could leave the club.

Meanwhile, Werner is expected to return to RB Leipzig after what has been a largely underwhelming loan spell.

Fresh reports from Fichajes now suggest that Tottenham could make one of the most surprising moves of the summer, with the club reportedly interested in signing Malen from Aston Villa.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The Dutch forward only arrived in the Midlands two months ago but is said to be on Spurs’ priority list.

It is believed that Tottenham are willing to open negotiations with Villa to secure Malen’s services. The need for attacking alternatives following Harry Kane’s departure 18 months ago has been a lingering issue, and Ange Postecoglou appears keen to address it.

Aston Villa’s stance and the potential deal

Villa signed Malen in the winter window for around £21 million, a fee that could rise if they decide to cash in quickly.

Postecoglou is reportedly a big admirer of the Dutchman’s pace, finishing ability, and creative output across the front line.

Of course, the links between Spurs and Malen aren’t exactly new, as Tottenham were rumoured to be interested in him in the winter transfer window before he joined Villa.

The versatile forward’s time in the Premier League so far has been rather poor, with the Dutchman scoring no goals in seven appearances.
