Leeds United are looking ahead to the final Championship run-in with their eyes set on promotion to the Premier League.

A dip in form ahead of the international break means Leeds are tied at the top of the table with Sheffield United and only two points ahead of Burnley.

However, Daniel Farke will also have one eye on the summer transfer window, knowing he will have to be well prepared, whatever Leeds’ fate is.

Joe Rothwell reveals Leeds United conversations

Joe Rothwell made the move to Leeds on loan from Bournemouth at the start of the season and has become a regular part of the side throughout the campaign.

The midfielder has made 35 Championship appearances, contributing four assists to his side’s efforts along the way.

As a result, Leeds may be looking to make the loan move permanent, with a fee of £7.5million required from Leeds if they were to complete a deal.

However, speaking to Leeds Live (27 March), Rothwell admitted that he is unsure about what his future holds, saying: “I’ve not really thought about it. You know, the full focus now is getting the club back to the Premier League.

“I’ve said it from day dot, really, I’ve loved my time here, and whether that continues, that’s not up to me. That’s between the club and my agent, but I’ll just concentrate on doing what I’ve got to do and hopefully help this club get back up to the Premier League.”

When asked if any talks had been held, the 30-year-old responded: “I haven’t. I’ve not looked into it or pushed through it. The full focus is getting the club back up.”

Leeds should look to strike Rothwell deal

The likelihood of a deal being done between the club and player this summer could well come down to the league Leeds find themselves in going into next season.

However, Bournemouth are said to be willing to let their player go should the right price be offered in the window, which certainly gives Leeds a boost.

You can understand the midfielder’s point of view and why the focus would be on the football side of things, especially at this point in the season.

However, if Leeds do gain promotion, they will want to be as prepared as possible, meaning getting an understanding of the situation at this stage may not be a bad idea.

Given how well the Cherries have done this season, it’s unlikely they will be looking to bring Rothwell into their squad permanently and rather, would be hoping to upgrade throughout the team.

Leeds, on the other hand, will need to have a core spine of the squad in place to build around, and as a player with Premier League experience already, Rothwell could well be the answer to that.
