NFL Reporter Pours Cold Water on Cam Skattebo Outlook at Next Level

As the 2025 NFL Draft approaches, former Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo has garnered attention for his impressive performances in the 2024 season. However, recent insights from NFL.com analyst Chad Reuter suggest that Skattebo's transition to the professional level may face challenges due to conditioning issues.

In a discussion on "Orange and Blue Today," Reuter emphasized that while Skattebo has the potential to contribute immediately in the NFL, his conditioning has been a concern throughout his college career. He noted that Skattebo had to focus significantly on improving his fitness before his senior year, with coaches encouraging him to enhance his conditioning to meet NFL standards. Reuter highlighted instances during the playoffs where Skattebo appeared fatigued in the fourth quarter, citing the necessity for NFL running backs to maintain endurance, especially if expected to handle substantial workloads.

Despite these concerns, Skattebo's achievements in the 2024 season are impressive. He amassed 1,711 rushing yards with an average of 5.8 yards per carry, along with 21 rushing touchdowns. Additionally, he contributed 605 receiving yards, averaging 13.4 yards per catch, and secured 3 receiving touchdowns. Over his college tenure, Skattebo accumulated 4,386 rushing yards and 43 rushing touchdowns.

Teams like the Denver Broncos, who have shown interest in Skattebo, might weigh these factors carefully when considering him as a potential mid-to-late-round selection. Reuter also mentions that if utilized in a role that limits him to around 15 carries per game, Skattebo could show off his strengths without overextending his endurance.

As the draft nears, Skattebo's performance in pre-draft workouts and his ability to address conditioning concerns will be pivotal in determining his position on draft boards.
