Man Utd now willing to sign£25m wonderkid as Geovany alternative, 19-year-old has 10 G/A

Manchester United are prepared to sign one of Braga’s emerging talents, according to O Jogo (page 10).

The Red Devils have had a poor Premier League season. They have accumulated just 37 points after 29 games and could finish in the bottom half of the table.

Manager Ruben Amorim should be backed with a spending spree this summer, and O Jogo claim that the Red Devils are interested in signing Roger Fernandes.

The 19-year-old is predominantly a right-sided winger, and United believe he has ‘enormous’ talent and potential similar to Sporting CP’s Geovany Quenda.

Quenda recently snubbed United to join Chelsea. The Red Devils are now ‘willing’ to fight for Fernandes, who is on the radar of several Premier League clubs.

Brighton & Hove Albion, Chelsea, Manchester City and Newcastle United are among his suitors.

The Portuguese wonderkid has a €40 million (£33m) release clause in his contract, but Braga are prepared to consider offers of around €30m (£25m) for their graduate.

United could consider move for Fernandes

The Red Devils suffered a huge setback this month as Chelsea hijacked their pursuit of Quenda.

Quenda was identified as a right wing-back solution for manager Ruben Amorim. The club must find a suitable alternative before the next transfer window.

Southampton’s Tyler Dibling has been linked over recent days, but a deal seems improbable, with the Saints set to demand a staggering £100m to sell him.

United will no doubt want a cheaper alternative. Fernandes has been linked amid a decent season. He has registered five goals and five assists from 44 appearances.

The youngster has predominantly played as a right-back this campaign but has also made 14 appearances as a right wing-back for the Portuguese outfit.

Fernandes can also operate on the opposite end. He played as a full-back earlier in his career.

With his extreme versatility, we won’t be surprised if United explore a summer transfer.

Braga are eyeing €30m (£25m) for his services, but the Red Devils could negotiate a lesser fee upfront, with the remaining paid in the form of performance-based add-ons
