Former France youth international Oumar Solet has been in impressive form since making his debut for Italian outfit Udinese.
Since making his debut against Hellas Verona in January, the centre-back has started every league match in which he has been included in the matchday squad.
Udinese have improved defensively since Solet’s arrival, keeping five clean sheets—two fewer than they had before his signing.
The talented centre-back is already being linked with a move away from the Bluenergy Stadium, with Man United and West Ham United reportedly interested in securing his services.
United have ‘tested the waters’ regarding a potential transfer for him, with Udinese demanding at least £25 million for his release, according to Messaggero Veneto.
Solet did not sign a long-term contract with Udinese—his current deal runs until 2027—which could allow him to exit in the summer.
Despite signing Matthijs de Ligt and Ayden Heaven in recent transfer windows, United are keen to add another centre-back to their squad.
Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans’ potential departures could weaken their defensive options, while Lisandro Martinez’s long-term injury has further emphasised the need for reinforcements.
United have also been linked with Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, but his £70m valuation may prove excessive, making Solet a more affordable alternative.
The 25-year-old can also play as a defensive midfielder, a role he occupied during the early stages of his career, adding to his appeal.
Having played in a three-man defence at Udinese, Solet could adapt well to the tactical demands of new United manager Ruben Amorim.
However, his injury history is a concern. Since the 2019/20 season, he has missed 56 games due to various injuries.
With United already dealing with multiple injury-prone players, they would need assurances that Solet would not become another if they sign him.
