NBA Commissioner Adam Silver had some positive news on potential Seattle SuperSonics return to the league via NBA expansion.
It has been 17 years since Seattle lost its NBA franchise, as the Seattle SuperSonics relocated to Oklahoma City and became the Thunder.
However, the wait for an NBA team to return to Seattle may soon be over. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver recently reaffirmed the league’s commitment to bringing a franchise back to the city.
"We are very focused on it," Silver stated during the Board of Governors press conference.
"The fact that we’re not ready to make public announcements on a specific timeline doesn’t mean we don’t care deeply about those fans or that we aren’t working hard on the potential return of the NBA to Seattle."
The Seattle SuperSonics, founded in 1967, were a part of the NBA for over four decades before their relocation in 2008. During their time in the league, they won an NBA championship in 1979 and built a passionate fanbase—one that continues to hope for the team's revival.
