Man United are racing Newcastle and a number of Europe’s elite clubs in their efforts to sign Hugo Ekitike, sources have told Football Insider.
United have been keeping a close eye on the 22-year-old’s performances for Eintracht Frankfurt this season as they plan to sign a new number nine this summer.
However, sources say Frankfurt will demand a “huge” fee for his signature after losing Omar Marmoush to Man City during the January transfer window.
Former chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider in January that Man United want to sign a new striker amid concerns about Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.
Meanwhile, Newcastle United have also held a long-term interest in the forward after they were beaten to his signing by PSG in 2022.
It is believed they had a bid of £30million including add-ons accepted by his then-club Stade de Reims – but the player rejected the move.

Frankfurt respond to Man United interest in Hugo Ekitike
Frankfurt are planning to keep Ekitike at the club beyond the summer transfer window, but are bracing for offers for the striker this summer.
A hattrick for France’s Under-21s side against England has inspired further interest and a number of Premier League scouts were in attendance at the game.
As a result, they will demand a top price in an attempt to deter rival interest, and are unlikely to be open to negotiations which would see his price fall.
Meanwhile, Man United have also been linked with moves to sign Harry Kane, Viktor Gyokeres and Jean-Philippe Mateta as they target new attacking options.

As Man United eye a number of new strikers ahead of the summer transfer window, they are also prepared to let their current options go to raise funds.
Brown told Football Insider on 24 March that Man United want to sell Hojlund this summer, and have set a £50million price tag for his services.
However, interested clubs are believed to have been put off by the 22-year-old’s lofty asking price and will move on to other targets as a result.
This comes after Brown told Football Insider earlier this month that Hojlund has no future at Man United and possible replacements are already being lined up.
