Alfred Collins is a hard-nosed 2025 NFL Draft prospect out of Texas who has excellent physical traits to fit into a defensive line rotation. He has the lateral ability to spoil lanes for offensive linemen in a zone blocking scheme and his stride length to disrupt the backfield. Collins was hard to move in the trenches last season due to adding mass to his frame, especially when his pad level is correct. However, he is sometimes late to shed blocks and fill gaps.
Collins was a late bloomer at Texas, as he didn’t crack the starting lineup until his fourth season for the Longhorns. In 2023, he was an Honorable Mention All-Big 12 conference when he recorded 22 tackles, two sacks, and two pass breakups. Collins followed up by recording 55 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, one sack, one forced fumble, and one blocked kick, earning Associated Press Second-team All-American honors. Alfred Collins is not the most polished prospect in the 2025 NFL Draft, but he is one of the most naturally gifted defensive tackle prospects. He could work as a two-gap player in a four-man front, a defensive end in a three-man front, or a classic nose tackle in a 3-4 alignment. Collins has the skills and physical demeanor to play in any of those defenses and contribute right away, and he has skills that are waiting to be developed with proper coaching. His best position in the NFL is as a two-gap player on a four-man front, as he would take on double teams to keep linebackers clean so they can make plays. All in all, Alfred Collins will not be a high sack guy, but he can play a critical role on a team’s defensive front sooner rather than later.
