Cole Palmer injury update as Chelsea star faces anxious Tottenham race

Cole Palmer has not taken part in Chelsea training since his injury, football.london understands, as the 22-year-old faces a race to be fit for the visit of Tottenham next week.

The 22-year-old withdrew from the England squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia recently because of a muscular injury he suffered just before the break. Around 24 hours before Chelsea lost at the Emirates Stadium to Arsenal on March 16, Palmer sustained a problem in training and ended up missing the London derby.

After the game, Enzo Maresca seemed hopeful Palmer would be back for the Tottenham match after the international break but admitted his star attacker would be assessed after a scan. However, Palmer then needed another scan on the muscular issue and has since been absent from training at Cobham.

Chelsea's players have started to return to their Surrey training base in recent days with the international break now over but there is still a week until they take on Spurs in the Premier League. Palmer has between now and then to recover otherwise the Blues will be missing their star attacker for the London derby.

Nicolas Jackson, meanwhile, returned to training earlier this week with the Chelsea striker in contention to return to the side for the Tottenham match. The 23-year-old has been missing for the last eight matches in all competitions after suffering a hamstring injury against West Ham United at the start of last month.

Jackson, though, was pictured in training alongside his teammates at Cobham on Wednesday afternoon, but there was no sign of Noni Madueke in any of the photos that were released. Madueke is recovering from a hamstring injury as well after limping off in the 3-0 defeat to Brighton on Valentine's Day.
