The Cleveland Browns could go one of several different ways next month in Green Bay at the 2025 NFL Draft.
The consensus early was that they would take a quarterback. Which they desperately need. But as we draw closer to the event, that might not be the case.
ESPN's Adam Schefter appeared on NFL Live on Wednesday and indicated he may be changing his line of thinking as it pertains to the Browns and the draft.
"A month ago I thought Cleveland was going to be in the quarterback market but I thought they were going to be there because they liked Cam Ward," Schefter said. "I don't know that they would go Shedeur [Sanders] at 2."
Schefter also indicated he would pencil in Penn State's Abdul Carter at No. 2 for Cleveland. But what about the Browns trading up to No. 1 with Tennessee?
"Well you also heard the Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi say that he's open to anything. And so he's going to be listening to phone calls," Schefter noted. "That doesn't mean that the New York Giants will be able to make it up to No. 1. I expect the Browns and the Giants both to make calls and let's see if there's a team that can come up with an offer that the Titans can't pass up. Yes, the Titans absolutely do like Ward. Yes, they're ready to take him.
"But these teams have one month to change Tennessee's mind and make an offer compelling enough to move Tennessee, which has a ton of holes on its roster, off the No. 1 pick."
Cleveland still needs a quarterback, and that won't change until, well, they get one. But if they're not high on Sanders and Ward is off the board, they have a decision to make. Take Carter at No. 2 or trade back to gain as much draft stock as possible.
