It has now been six days since Aaron Rodgers visited the Pittsburgh Steelers. Since then, very little has come out about Rodgers’ wants.
However, details about the meeting have emerged, this time from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. The gist of the meeting is that it was set up by Rodgers, who Pelissero said ‘basically invited’ himself to the facility.
On top of that, no financial parameters were discussed, as the Steelers have that set up already. The meeting set the groundwork for Rodgers to make his decision. It was more about getting to know one another than diving headfirst into the details.
“Aaron basically invited himself on a visit late last week,” Pelissero said during an appearance on the Jim Rome Show on Thursday. “He was in the building for several hours, he watched tape with the coaches. This deal has been in place contract-wise for weeks. They’ve discussed parameters. This is not going to be a financial issue at all for Aaron Rodgers. If it gets done it’s going to be a 1-year deal... This was a get-to-know-you meeting, everything there sounds positive. I can tell you Aaron has kept a dialogue with various members of the organization, coaches, other players. There’s been communication like this is something he’s really going to do and at this point right now, sitting here in late March the Pittsburgh Steelers are the only opportunity that Aaron has.”
Rodgers does not have to sign with the Steelers. His options, right now, include Pittsburgh, retirement, or simply waiting for a job to open up. The Steelers still have no timeline on when Rodgers will decide to sign, but it seems likely that will come before the NFL Draft.
April 21st is the start of voluntary workouts, and while Rodgers notoriously missed the Jets’ mandatory minicamp last year, he was often around for voluntary workouts and OTAs.
If the Steelers will sign Rodgers, it will likely come before the NFL Draft just to set the groundwork for what the team will need for the 2025 season.
