Browns Possible Draft Target Won’t Work Out for Pro Day

The Cleveland Browns are keeping their draft plans close to the vest for next month's selection event in Green Bay.

It's commonly thought that the team will take a quarterback at No. 2, but there are signs they may choose a defensive player, too.

If they go defense, it's most likely going to be Penn State's Abdul Carter, who is widely considered the best defensive player in the draft. The Browns could pair him with the newly extended Myles Garrett along the defensive line to become on of the most feared units in the league.

But Carter won't be participating in the Nittany Lions' Pro Day per Carter's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, as ESPN's Adam Schefter reported.

"He is still finishing up rehab on the shoulder injury he had from the Boise State game," Rosenhaus told Schefter on Thursday. "He may still do a workout for teams sometime in mid-April."

Rosenhaus continued that Carter considered surgery to put a screw in his foot but doctors advised against it. The resulting recovery process will extend into the Pro Day workout.

"I couldn't be more confident that this will be a nonfactor where he's drafted," Rosenhaus told Schefter a month ago. "He will put on a show at his pro day."

Carter is expected to be the first player taken in the draft next month and didn't participate in workouts at the Combine, either.

"We fully expect Abdul to be recovered in time to work out at his pro day at Penn State, and he will perform at a very high level,'' Rosenhaus told Schefter in February.
