BOONE, N.C. — App State Football conducted its annual Pro Day on Thursday, with 10 seniors from the 2024 team being observed by NFL and NASCAR team representatives.
Nine players participated in workouts: Michael Fletcher (DL), Christan Horn (WR), Michael Hughes (K), Christian Johnstone (LS), Montez Kelley (DL), Ahmani Marshall (RB), Conner Maynard (P), Seth Robertson (DB) and Eli Wilson (TE). Going through rehab following a November knee injury, Kaedin Robinson (WR) was also in attendance to meet with professional organizations.
The highlights included Hughes, a 2023 All-American, capping a 13-for-13 day on field goals by making a 63-yard attempt. His scripted plan began with a kick from 33 yards out (the distance for an NFL extra point) and worked back to 58 yards.
After he made that kick, an NFL scout requested that he move back 5 more yards for one final attempt to conclude his outdoor special teams session with Johnstone and Maynard.
"You can catch your breathe now," the scout told Hughes.
"I've been breathing all day," a smiling Hughes quickly replied.
Horn, who averaged 17.1 yards per catch during his App State career, ran the 40-yard dash in 4.47 seconds, with the next-best times in the Sofield Family Indoor Practice Facility coming from Robertson (4.53) and the 225-pound Marshall (4.57). The 239-pound Wilson's 4.70 as a tight end and the 6-foot-5, 288-pound Fletcher's 4.88 as a defensive lineman were also noteworthy positional numbers.
Wilson's strong all-around day included a 34.5-inch vertical jump, 20 reps of 225 pounds in the bench press and a broad jump of 9 feet, 10 inches. Robertson led the way with a 38-inch vertical jump and 10-foot, 5-inch broad jump.
Fletcher had 25 reps in the bench press, a vertical jump of 33.5 inches and a 10-yard split of 1.61 seconds for his 40.
Other bench-press rep totals of note were Marshall's 19 and Horn's 14 as skill position players. Horn had a vertical jump of 34 inches, with 32 inches being posted by Marshall, who had a 10-foot broad jump.
The 2025 NFL Draft will be held from April 24-26 in Green Bay. App State had a Sun Belt-leading 14 football alums on NFL rosters late in the 2024 season, with that group split evenly among seven NFL draft picks and seven undrafted free agents.
To date, the alums who have joined new teams since the end of the 2024 season are Darrynton Evans (Buffalo Bills), Akeem Davis-Gaither (Arizona Cardinals), Shemar Jean-Charles (Seattle Seahawks), Kendall Lamm (Philadelphia Eagles) and Sam Martin (Carolina Panthers).
