Gonzaga Legend Signs First NBA Contract After Dominant G League Performance

It took posting a ridiculous 50 point game in the G League for Gonzaga basketball icon Drew Timme to finally get an NBA opportunity, but the Brooklyn Nets have reportedly signed the big man to a two-year deal according to Michael Scotto of Hoops Hype.

Timme was named the G League Player of the Week last week, averaging 35.7 points and 12.7 rebounds for the Long Island Nets. That included a 50 point outburst on Saturday, where he shot 21-26 from the field and 3-5 from three, while adding nine rebounds and two assists.

Timme had 30 points and 12 rebounds in the previous game, and 27 points and 10 rebounds before that - a torrid stretch that has landed him his first guaranteed contract in the NBA, almost exactly two years after his college basketball career ended in the Elite Eight against UConn in 2023.

Timme left Gonzaga as the program's all-time leading scorer, earning All-American honors in three of his four seasons with the Zags.

Despite his elite footwork around the rim and scoring prowess, concerns about his defensive mobility and outside shooting meant he went undrafted in 2023, inking a deal with the Milwaukee Bucks and spending his first pro season with the Wisconsin Herd in the G League.

This season with Long Island, Timme is averaging 23.9 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 4.1 assists while shooting 57.4% from the field and 38.5% from beyond the arc - a huge factor in Brooklyn deciding to give him a look at the NBA level.

Timme will become the 12th Zag to play in an NBA game this season once he makes his debut, joining Domantas Sabonis, Chet Holmgren, Jalen Suggs, Kelly Olynyk, Brandon Clarke, Corey Kispert, Andrew Nembhard, Zach Collins, Julian Strawther, Rui Hachimura, and Anton Watson.
