Newcastle United are looking to sign Jarell Quansah from Liverpool.
With the Magpies in the market for a centre-back, they are going to reignite their interest in Jarell Quansah after failing to sign him in 2024.
He was a target for Newcastle United last summer, but Liverpool did not want to sell.
The hope is that will change in 2025, with Newcastle hoping to sign Quansah for £30million. Despite interest from Tyneside, Liverpool plan to keep Quansah.
But the 22-year-old is on the Magpies’ list of centre-back targets, as they aim to sign a player who will be Fabian Schar’s long-term replacement at St James’ Park. They want a young player with potential, and Quansah certainly ticks both of those boxes.

Jarell Quansah’s ambition at Liverpool
In fact, he has ambitions of being recognised as one of the best in the world. That is what he told the Times in September 2024.
“I’m up against the best centre halves in the world [at Liverpool], in my opinion,” he said.
“I think I’ll have to be one of the best centre halves in Europe if I’m starting.

“It’s always been the goal since I was young. I’ve always wanted to be the best in the world in my position.
“I’m always striving for that. It doesn’t matter how long it takes. I’m just staying ready for whenever it comes.”
Quansah struggling for minutes at Liverpool
As it stands, Quansah does not appear to be on the path towards achieving that goal in a Liverpool shirt.
He is not a regular under Arne Slot, making 22 appearances in all competitions this season. He has only started twice for Liverpool in the Premier League, and one of those appearances saw him substituted at half-time due to a difficult 45 minutes.
As Quansah says, he is behind top level centre-backs at Anfield. To be in the starting XI, he needs to be better than Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.
That is why a move away from Liverpool could suit the youngster, and Newcastle United could be the perfect destination.
Eddie Howe can help Quansah achieve his goal at Newcastle United
While he would not arrive at St James’ Park as a guaranteed starter, there would be a clear path towards him becoming a permanent fixture in the starting XI. Fabian Schar is still playing at a very high level, but he is 33-years-old and eventually needs to be replaced.
There will be a changing of the guard at centre-back, and Quansah could be the player who takes Schar’s place.
They are big boots to fill, but Quansah has the potential to do just that.
And when it comes to realising potential, Eddie Howe is the perfect manager to make that happen. He is the master when it comes to player improvement – it is difficult to name a single player at Newcastle United who has not gotten better thanks to Howe’s coaching.
The Newcastle United manager is always striving for more, and is certainly capable of making Quansah’s dream of becoming the best in the world come true.
You could argue that has happened to Alexander Isak at St James’ Park. Sure, he was very good when he joined Newcastle, but now he is recognised as arguably the best striker in the world.
Look at Lewis Hall. He was not a great defender when he arrived, but now he is seen as England’s future down that left flank. That is all down to hard work and great coaching.
If Quansah is serious about becoming the best defender around then he should be desperate to link up with Eddie Howe.
