Millwall star Liam Cundle has been speaking as he and his teammates attempt to mount a playoff push.
Millwall star Luke Cundle has been speaking after finding his feet with the Lions on the back of a January move from Premier League side Wolves. Cundle has racked up nine league appearances for the Lions so far as they look to force their way into the playoff competition.
Cundle had completed loan spells during his time with Wolves, spending time at Swansea City, Plymouth Argyle and Stoke City before finally giving up on his Wolves dream.
The midfielder has slotted in comfortably at The Den, although he has had to dust off his wallet more than ones due to fines that are designed to keep the changing room a community. “There’s all sorts of fines in that changing room,” Cundle told Southwark News. “It goes across me sometimes, but if I have a fine you just pay it.
“There’s all sorts of stupid ones. If you drink anything but water in the changing room, it’s a fine. That baffled me, but like I said, I pick things up on the job so you’ve just got to kind of look around and see what people are getting fined for and just do it your own way.”
Alex Neil has made a solid impact with Millwall since replacing Neil Harris earlier in the season, managing to steady the ship after a mid-season wobble and get the Lions to within six points of the players. “He’s really detailed,” Cundle said when asked about Neil’s approach. “So when you go out onto the pitch, every one of us knows what we’re doing, with and without the ball.
“He’s very clear and very open in how he comes across. I think that’s good for the players as well. There’s no fifty-fifties in your head, you know what you’re doing, it makes it a lot easier for you. This break gives him the time to get some more ideas across, because obviously every game has been Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Wednesday.”
The Lions are now in with a shot of reaching the playoffs, but they now face a host of promotion hopefuls and will have to remain ultra-consistent if they want to make up the gap and stay in the race heading into the final games of the season. “For the team [our goal] is can we keep our season alive as much as possible,” Cundle added. “Obviously it’s six points, but six points is a lot. But also in the same breath it’s not because within a week in the Championship we can pick it up and get there. So I think we will try and take it game by game really.
“Personally, like I said, I feel like my levels have dropped off a bit in the recent weeks, so I’ll probably just try and get back to those levels and try and score goals and help the team win games.”
Millwall are next in action against Sunderland away from home this weekend, and after a date with Portsmouth, they then face Sheffield United, Middlesbrough, Blackburn Rovers and Middlesbrough on the bounce.
