'It's true': Fabrizio Romano transfer update will leave Man City fans both worried and excited

News that Southampton want £100million for Tyler Dibling has sparked great debate among football fans, and has struck fear into Manchester City’s fanbase.

Southampton are crashing out of the Premier League, on course to be the top flight’s worst-ever side with just nine points to their name with nine games left to go.

Despite their woeful season though, it looks like they have some players that will be poached by Premier League vultures in the summer, one of which being Tyler Dibling.

The 19-year-old attacker has been something of a shining light for the Saints and it’s been reported that Manchester City are keen on Dibling ahead of the summer transfer window.

But Southampton want £100million for Dibling. Needless to say, the news has left many in stitches and wondering how one earth Southampton could make such a demand.

And plenty of Man City fans have reacted to Dibling’s transfer valuation, urging the club not to take up the offer fearing it could be another repeat of Jack Grealish’s £100million signing in 2021.

Fabrizio Romano confirms £100m Tyler Dibling valuation, but there’s hope for Man City fans

Speaking on Market Madness, journalist Fabrizio Romano has weighed in on the madness by confirming that Southampton really do want £100million for Dibling this summer, adding that the Saints genuinely think he’s ‘one of the best players in the world in terms of potential’.

Romano said: “Yeah, it’s true [the £100m price tag]. It’s what Southampton want. There’s still two years left on his contract, so let’s see also what the player’s position, the conversation at the end of the season between the player and Southampton.

“But as of today, this is what Southampton want. They believe he’s one of the best players in the world in terms of potential, in his position. They believe it’s not easy to find that kind of talent in his position at this age and this is why Southampton are asking for important money.”

However, Romano then went on to reveal that Dibling is actually a ‘top target’ for both Manchester United and Spurs, whilst Man City’s interest remains a sort of passing interest at this moment in time, in what will be good news for City fans.

Romano said: “At the moment, I can confirm that for Tottenham he’s kind of top target. They love the player. They would love to bring him in in the summer transfer window. But again, it’s not going to be super easy.

“Man City, let’s see, because City at the moment are following the player but from what I heard they didn’t start any concrete conversations. He’s also kind of dream target for Manchester United.”

Where Tyler Dibling could rank among most expensive Premier League transfers of all time

Although Southampton’s really do want £100million for Dibling, it’ll be a huge shock if anyone actually comes up and pays that much for such an unproven player, and for an attacker who’s only scored twice in 26 Premier League games all season.

But this is the day and age we’re in right now. City have spent big in the past and spending £100million on Dibling unfortunately can’t be ruled out entirely, though again it does seem highly unlikely.

And if Dibling leaves St Mary’s for £100million this summer then it’ll be one of the Premier League and Britain’s most expensive ever signings.

Name Transfer Price

Jadon Sancho Dortmund to Man United £71m

Harry Maguire Leicester City to Man United £72m

Josko Gvardiol RB Leipzig to Man City £75m

Antony Ajax to Man United £79m

Paul Pogba Juventus to Man United £87m

Romelu Lukaku Inter to Chelsea £94m

Moises Caicedo Brighton to Chelsea £96m

Declan Rice West Ham to Arsenal £97m

Jack Grealish Aston Villa to Man City £100m

Enzo Fernandez Benfica to Chelsea £101m

City look like they have other players in other positions higher up on their list though. A new goalkeeper could be a pressing priority in the summer whilst fixing the club’s ailing centre of midfield could be another key priority for Pep Guardiola.
