Everton 'aiming to repeat Angus Kinnear move' as Leeds United face transfer plan blow

Everton are reportedly looking to lure Leeds United's transfer expert Nick Hammond to their club this summer, after already poaching chief executive Angus Kinnear.

Earlier this month, it was confirmed that Kinnear would be departing Elland Road to take up a new role with the Toffees this summer. Everton are set to move into their impressive new Bramley Moore Dock Stadium next term and, under the new ownership of the Friedkin Group, are hopeful of brighter days to come.

Kinnear arrived at the Whites in 2017 and helped them to return to the Premier League in 2020. He also played a pivotal role as Leeds' ownership transitioned to the 49ers Enterprises in 2023.

With his departure, it now looks like Kinnear wants to bring Hammond with him to Merseyside. The 57-year-old former goalkeeper has been working as a freelance transfer advisor for the Whites since June 2023.

Initially signed on a short-term contract, Hammond joined permanently in November of that year assisting boss Daniel Farke with his transfer plans. According to The Athletic, Hammond is well thought of by Kinnear, and was given the freedom to handle trading and negotiations on the club's behalf.

They indicate Hammond is now in the mix for a similar role with Everton, which could leave Leeds in a quandary come this summer. Leeds Live understands, as of a few weeks ago, United had not been told by Kinnear that he wishes to pinch any senior figures. The expectancy is that The Friedkin Group will have their own top brass in place for Kinnear's arrival.

The likelihood of staff being prised away from Elland Road depends on the type of contract they are on. With Kinnear's scheduled exit now confirmed, the club is reviewing the structure of the board before deciding next steps.

Peter McCormick - former chair of the boards at the Football Association and the Premier League - has joined the club as an executive vice chairman. United have underlined that he is not a replacement for Kinnear, and that his responsibilities include advising the board on finance matters and representing chairman Paraag Marathe at meetings.

The Whites' goal is to be in the Premier League next season, and they currently sit top of the Championship on goal difference above Sheffield United. As has been witnessed in recent years, teams coming up from the Championship have struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League.

It looks likely that for the second consecutive season the teams that have just been promoted from the second tier will be going straight back down again after just one campaign. Therefore, Leeds will be hoping they can get their transfer department in order quickly for what could be a crucial summer window no matter what happens this season.
