Why sacking Ruud van Nistelrooy could be a big mistake amid claims Leicester City want Liam…

Ruud van Nistelrooy is under pressure at Leicester City.

Leicester have lost seven games on the bounce without scoring and reside nine points adrift of 17th-placed Wolves.

The Foxes are staring down the barrel of a second relegation to the Championship in just three seasons, which has resulted in Jon Rudkin receiving a lot of backlash from supporters.

Rudkin looks set to remain and will likely oversee the summer rebuild, so it’s imperative that he learns from the disastrous Steve Cooper appointment last summer.

Leicester are eyeing Liam Rosenior to replace Van Nistelrooy, however, sacking the Dutchman could be a major mistake.

Here’s why.

Sacking Ruud van Nistelrooy could ruin summer transfer business

Leicester City have been running incredibly close to the PSR limit, and it’s thought that sacking Steve Cooper wasn’t good for finances.

So, if they were to give Van Nistelrooy his marching orders, it’d require another large payout, which would inevitably eat into the summer budget.

Leicester must weigh up whether replacing Van Nistelrooy would be better than signing an additional three players, for argument’s sake.

That’s the sort of impact his sacking could have, so it really does seem like a decision that could be detrimental to City’s promotion hopes next term.

They’d probably be better off sticking with the former PSV boss and backing him with a sizable budget in the second tier.

Van Nistelrooy hasn’t been given fair chance

Whilst Van Nistelrooy’s tenure has been poor, and there’s no doubt he’s made mistakes, it is worth noting he hasn’t had a fair chance.

The Leicester boss hasn’t been able to assemble a squad with any of his own players, nor has he had a pre-season to implement his philosophy on a deeper level.

Van Nistelrooy was given just £3m to spend in January, with Woyo Coulibaly joining as a backup right-back to James Justin.

Perhaps with his own players, he could become a success at the King Power.
