Everton receive results of Vitalii Mykolenko's injury scan, there's a big twist - insider

Everton’s injury issues have been a real problem this season, with the Toffees suffering from a real lack of squad depth.

David Moyes has endured losing some of his best attacking players since making the return to Merseyside in January.

On a positive note, Everton have seen Dwight McNeil return to training ahead of the Merseyside Derby next week.

However, there are numerous players still sidelined through injury.

After only adding one loan signing during the January transfer window, Everton have been treading water in a few positions with options extremely limited.

Left-back is certainly one of them with Vitalii Mykolenko the only senior left-back available for selection to Moyes.

And over recent days, Mykolenko sustained an injury during the international break, with the results just coming through.

It is not the preparation the club will have wanted heading into the Merseyside Derby next week.

However, one club insider has now claimed the results of the left-back’s scans are not as bad as first feared.

It is unclear as to whether that would mean there’s a possibility of him playing in the game at Anfield on Wednesday.

But it is said he will be continually monitored back at Finch Farm after what will be a huge relief for Moyes.

Mykolenko recently provided his first Premier League assist in the draw away to Brentford as he continues to play a big role in the starting XI.

This scare has to act as a warning for Everton to sign a new left-back to provide Mykolenko with competition and cover.

Everton eyeing new full-backs in the summer

After coming in during January, Moyes was keen to sign a new left-back in the transfer window.

Everton did not do anything crazy during the January market with some concerns surrounding their position with PSR.

However, the Friedkins are expected to back Moyes in the summer with so many players set to depart.

Although Everton would like to hand Mykolenko a new contract, the club need to provide the Ukrainian with someone to rotate with throughout the season.
