It is going to be a busy summer at Man Utd and Fabrizio Romano has issued an update on two potential deals.

Fabrizio Romano has played down the suggestion of a lucrative summer windfall for Manchester United from the potential sale of Mason Greenwood. The 23-year-old joined Marseille in a £26.6 million deal last year, including a substantial sell-on clause for Ruben Amorim's side.

Greenwood was arrested and later charged with attempted rape, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and controlling and coercive behaviour after an investigation started in January 2022. However, the charges were dropped in February 2023. Greenwood has always denied the charges against him.

The forward has 16 goals and 3 assists in 28 appearances for Marseille this season and has been linked with a summer transfer that could provide United with a timely financial boost. Paris Saint-Germain are one of the sides to have been linked with a move for Greenwood, though Romano does not believe there is any guarantee the forward will be on the move again at the end of the season.

Fabrizio Romano issues Mason Greenwood update

Writing in his latest GIVEMESPORT newsletter, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano was quizzed on the possibility of Mason Greenwood leaving Marseille this summer and the windfall it would provide Manchester United. "There are many rumours, but nothing has been decided at this stage for Greenwood," he said. "There are not even negotiations with other clubs."

Manchester World understands United will be entitled to 50 per cent of the profits of any future sale of Greenwood as part of his £26.6 million transfer to Marseille. There have been suggestions United will pocket half of any future transfer fee, but they will earn half of any profit. However, there would be a further reduction as Manchester World also understands Getafe included a clause that entitles them to 20 per cent of all of United’s potential future earnings on Greenwood. He spent the 2023-24 campaign on loan with the La Liga club before completing his permanent switch to France last summer.

Fabrizio Romano names player Manchester United 'obviously like'

The potential sale of Mason Greenwood could be a huge boost to Manchester United's transfer budget this summer as they look to rebuild their squad under Ruben Amorim. Manchester World understands they will target a striker, right winger, and at least one central midfielder in the upcoming transfer window, with their priority to add a new goal scorer to the first-team squad.

United's budget will be dictated by whether or not they qualify for the Champions League, and that seems like the only chance they have of landing Sporting star Viktor Gyokeres this summer. They have already missed out on a deal for Geovany Quenda and have been linked with both Francisco Trincao and Goncalo Inacio.

Asked if Amorim could raid his former club this summer, Fabrizio Romano added: "There is nothing fresh in terms of contact with and for Sporting players. They obviously like Gyokeres, but it will be an open race."
