Ruben Amorim has already warned that Manchester United need to sell before they buy - and his dream could come true with a £310million payday this summer. The Red Devils have been hit with financial difficulty over recent seasons.

Speaking about the situation at Old Trafford, the Portuguese head coach said: "It is simple. To do something, we need to sell players.” And things have not been much better on the pitch with United sitting 13th in the Premier League. In an effort to get the club back on track, club chiefs might choose to dip into the transfer market.

Before that, a few players need to be sold which could arm Amorim with an eye-watering war chest ahead of his first full season at the helm. The first departure could potentially be Marcus Rashford.

The United star is currently in the midst of a loan spell with Premier League rivals Aston Villa and has enjoyed a bright start in the Midlands. Rashford is open to a permanent switch to Villa Park, with Unai Emery’s side having an option to sign him for £40m.

Another of United’s loanees Antony has also enjoyed a productive start to life with his loan club Real Betis. Having appeared to have drawn a line under his time at Old Trafford, United could choose to sell him permanently for a fee of around £40m.

A final loanee who could also be sold this summer is Jadon Sancho . The former Borussia Dortmund winger has spent the season with Chelsea, who have a £25m obligation to buy him permanently despite reports suggesting they are trying to back out of the agreement by paying a £5m penalty clause.

Away from the club’s loanees, there are a few other stars who United could earn a pretty penny by selling. Midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has yet to sign a new contract at Old Trafford and United could choose to sell should they fail to find an agreement on an extended stay. He reportedly has a price tag of around £70m.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Andre Onana could also be sold. His future is far from certain and the Express suggest that a bid of around £40m might be enough to convince United to sell. Alejandro Garnacho is also apparently among those who could leave. The Argentine was linked with an exit in January, Napoli among the sides interested in him. United reportedly rebuffed a £40m bid and are holding out for around £60m.

United could earn a decent cash injection from selling two of their older stars. Casemiro and Harry Maguire look likely to leave sooner rather than later.

The latter has been strongly linked with a switch to Saudi Arabia amid a reported £25m asking price. And Maguire could potentially earn United around £10m with just over a year remaining on his current deal at Old Trafford.

And should United earn all of those fees for those eight stars, that would arm Amorim with around £310m for the summer, with a new striker and defender thought to be among his prime targets.
