West Ham Powerless to Stop Saudi Mega Money Raid

West Ham are in no position to turn down an £84 million offer for winger Mohammed Kudus.

Yesterday, Martin commented on reports suggesting Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr are preparing to make a formal bid when the transfer window reopens in June. The proposed fee appears to fall just below the threshold required to activate Kudus’s release clause.

It’s possible the reported figure is slightly off regarding the exact amount needed to trigger a mandatory sale. However, even if the bid comes in slightly under that figure at £84m, West Ham would almost certainly have to accept.

Last season, anything less than £100 million felt like a derisory offer given Kudus’s stunning debut campaign. But this year, for various reasons, he has been a shadow of that player—and the club can’t realistically expect to hold out for the same valuation.

With Graham Potter’s system appearing poorly-suited to Kudus’s strengths and the club in desperate need of a cash injection to fund a major summer rebuild, the Hammers may have no choice but to sell.

£84 million is a huge return on a player who cost £35 million and has recently stopped scoring and assisting. There’s little doubt Kudus could rediscover his form elsewhere and eventually justify a £100m price tag again—but as things stand, the West Ham board would have to cash in.
