'Quite easily': Chelsea legend Frank Lampard told which team he could manage next after Coventry success

Chelsea icon Frank Lampard is persisting with football management, and nobody wants him to succeed in the dugout more than Blues supporters.

Frank Lampard, who’s a true Chelsea legend from his playing days, seems determined to carve out a successful career as a head coach.

The 46-year-old Englishman has had mixed success so far during spells in charge at Derby County, Chelsea and Everton. However, everything has gone superbly well so far since he was appointed Coventry City boss at the end of November.

Under Lampard’s tenure this season, Coventry have risen from 17th to 5th in the Championship table in the space of a few months to become play-off contenders.

Chelsea fans are super impressed with Lampard and his impact at Coventry, with some even suggesting he’s better than current Blues manager Enzo Maresca.

Chris Wilder suggests Frank Lampard could manage England

On Friday night, Sheffield United host Coventry in an important Championship fixture.

During his pre-match press conference, Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder paid huge compliments to his opposite number. In fact, he thinks Lampard is harshly judged and is good enough to manage the England national team in the future.

“I just love the fact that he (Lampard) loves football and it shines through that he does, whatever job he takes,” Wilder told BBC Sport.

“People are critical of him and I just don’t get it. He could quite easily manage England in my opinion.

“It’s proving to be an inspired choice of manager. Coventry City have arguably one of the best groups of players in this division and that’s being shown now.”

It’s nice to hear some positivity about Lampard’s management because his name itself carries pressure and scrutiny.

If Coventry can finish the league strongly to end up in the play-offs positions, it feels like they would be the team with all the momentum.

Could Frank Lampard manage England in the future?

At this moment in time, we’d argue Lampard still has a lot to prove and develop as a manager before he’s spoken about as a candidate for the England job.

The English FA sent out a real statement that they want the very best when they appointed Thomas Tuchel as the Three Lions boss ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Back in July 2024, Gary Lineker suggested Lampard for England before Tuchel took the role as England manager.

If the FA do go back to an English appointment post-Tuchel, Newcastle United’s Eddie Howe feels like the best coach the country has to offer right now. Let’s wait and see what Lampard can achieve in the years ahead before completely ruling him out, though.
