As well as the return of injured trio Luke Shaw, Leny Yoro and Harry Magurie, the session also featured a number of youngsters, with 17-year-old striker Chido Obi and 18-year-old left-back Harry Amass continuing to train with the senior team. They were supplemented by centre-backs Kukonki, 17, and Munro, 18, as well as midfielder Thwaites and winger Mantato, both also 17.

Ayden Heaven and Kobbie Mainoo didn't feature at training as they continue to recover from injuries, while Victor Lindelof, Nouassair Mazraoui and Manuel Ugarte were also missing. That trio played for their national teams on Tuesday night.

Mason Mount trained as he continues to step up his own return from injury and he will hope to be involved against Forest next week. United don't have a game this weekend having been knocked out of the FA Cup by Fulham, but Forest are in quarter-final action against Brighton on Saturday.

Away from the outfield group, there was good news amongst the goalkeepers with Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton both back in training after their own injury lay-offs.

This is the 21-man squad of outfield players seen at training on Friday.

Defenders: Dalot, De Ligt, Maguire, Yoro, Kukonki, Munro, Shaw, Amass, Dorgu

Midfielders: Thwaites, Fernandes,Casemiro, Collyer, Eriksen, Mount
