WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - NFL Star and Wilmington native Alex Highsmith will be presented a Key to the City during Azalea Festival week activities.

Highsmith is being honored with the key by the city of Wilmington for his work with the Wilmington community since being drafted.

He established the Alex Highsmith Family Foundation in 2020. It has helped kids by providing them with youth football camps, back-to-school drives, winter coat giveaways, and academic scholarships.

The presentation will take place at the fourth annual ‘The Signature’ Kentucky Derby-style event on Friday, April 4 at Smoke on the Water.

Alex Highsmith was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2020 as a third-round NFL Draft pick from the [University of North Carolina Charlotte](https://charlotte49ers.com/sports/football/roster/alex-highsmith/6179).
