Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has been handed a major boost as a number of players have returned to training ahead of the Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest.

Five players were captured training at Carrington this week. Three of the returnees are defenders Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Leny Yoro while the other two are goalkeepers Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton.

This month's international break offered an opportunity for injured players to step up their efforts to return to full fitness for the final few weeks of the season. The Reds have been heavily hit by injury this season, which has not helped their chances of success in the Premier League.

Despite their 3-0 win at Leicester City before the break, United remain 13th in the table, with games against Nottingham Forest, Manchester City and Newcastle United to come in the next few weeks.

The main focus between now and the end of the season will be to get players back as soon as possible to help compete in what is left of the Europa League. This is the most realistic route for United to secure European football next season.

Having progressed to the quarter-finals of the competition, United will play Lyon. The first match will be played in France on April 10 before the return tie at Old Trafford, the following week.

Here, MEN Sport has taken a look at the latest injury news from the treatment room.

Kobbie Mainoo

Amorim is hopeful that Mainoo will make his return to the squad next week if he has a positive week at Carrington. "Kobbie will maybe return in a few weeks. I don't know for sure," he said earlier this month.

Injury: Muscular.

Potential return date: April 1 vs Nottingham Forest.

Ayden Heaven

Heaven was seen in a protective boot following an injury sustained against Leicester but that has since been removed. The young centre-back did not feature in Friday's training session, however.

Injury: Ankle/foot.

Potential return date: April/May 2025.

Tom Heaton

Heaton is confident that his fitness issues are behind him and that he will be available for the final few weeks of the season.

Injury: Unknown.

Potential return date: April 1 vs Nottingham Forest.

Luke Shaw

It has been a difficult season for Shaw having suffered another injury setback in January. However, he is nearing a return after returning to training this week.

Injury: Muscular.

Potential return date: 1st April vs Nottingham Forest.

Harry Maguire

The defender missed the reunion against his former club Leicester City, prior to the international break but should be back next week after returning to training.

Injury: Unknown.

Potential return date: April 1 vs Nottingham Forest.

Altay Bayindir

Depending on the goalkeeper's progress this week, Bayindir could be available to face Forest.

Injury: Unknown.

Potential return date: April 1st vs Nottingham Forest.

Jonny Evans

Injury: Muscular.

Potential return date: Unknown.

Lisandro Martinez

Martinez will be aiming to be back before the end of the calendar year.

Injury: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

Potential return date: Next season.

Amad

Amorim has said that a return for the Ivorian could come before the end of the season, depending on some variables with his recovery.

Amad hinted on Monday that his return could come sooner rather than later though when he made a cryptic post on his social media channels.

Injury: Ankle.

Potential return date: May 2025.

Leny Yoro

Amorim is confident that Yoro's injury is not a long term one and hopefully the international break has allowed him to regain his fitness fully. The head coach expects Yoro to return for the Forest match.

Injury: Ankle/foot

Potential return date: April 1 vs Nottingham Forest.
