Aston Villa are keen on former Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek, according to a report in Italy.

Website Calciomercato claim Villa are one of four Premier League clubs who ‘like’ the 29-year-old, while a move to the Saudi Pro League is also mooted.

Loftus-Cheek has been with Milan since leaving Stamford Bridge in 2023, and while he made 40 appearances in all competitions in his first season, scoring 10 goals, he has had a disappointing second campaign, with no goals and a long-term injury that has prevented him from playing for two months.

With two years left on his contract he has returned from injury but competition for places at the San Siro is stiff, with Tijjani Reijnders, Warren Bondo and Youssouf Fofana also vying for game-time.

The story claims Villa are joined by Nottingham Forest, Fulham and Newcastle as being interested in Loftus-Cheek. It adds that if he doesn’t prove himself over the rest of the season a departure could be ‘inevitable’.

The Chelsea youth product can play as an authentic central midfielder or in an advanced role and has 10 England caps to his name.

As things stand, Villa do have options in the middle of the park, with John McGinn, Youri Tielemans and Morgan Rogers able to play further forward.
