Brazilian winger Antony has reflected on his turbulent spell at Manchester United and the resurgence he’s enjoyed since joining Real Betis on loan. The 24-year-old, who failed to consistently impress in the Premier League, has rediscovered his form in Spain, where he’s already delivered four goals and four assists in just 11 appearances for the La Liga side.
In a candid interview with DAZN, as reported by Goal, Antony expressed gratitude toward Manchester United and manager Erik ten Hag, despite a difficult period in England.
“If they pay that kind of money for you, it’s because you have talent and quality,” Antony told DAZN.
“*Wherever I go, I’ll always speak highly of United. I’m very grateful to the club and to Erik ten Hag for what we experienced together, for the titles, and for everything I’ve learned.*”
The former Ajax star joined United in 2022 for a reported £85 million but never truly settled, with criticism surrounding his end product and consistency. Still, Antony insists his time at Old Trafford helped shape him both professionally and personally.
“*I had difficult times there, but also very good ones. I think it prepared me to be here today, enjoying myself. My mind is here, and I’m very happy.*”

Since arriving in Seville, Antony has not only produced on the pitch but also found personal happiness off it — a factor he believes is crucial to his recent success.
“I found myself. I needed to find myself and be happy,” he explained.
“*I needed my family to be happy too. Every day that goes by I see that it was the best decision I could have made.*”
He also spoke about his love for the lifestyle in southern Spain, drawing comparisons to his native Brazil.
“*I’m enjoying the city, the club and everything. It reminds me a lot of Brazil because of the sun, the food, the people are also very happy.*”

While Antony hasn’t ruled out a return to Manchester United, there’s growing speculation that a permanent move to Real Betis could be on the cards. According to Goal, discussions are expected soon between United, Betis, and Antony’s representatives to explore the possibility of a full transfer.
Betis, however, currently cover only a fraction of Antony’s substantial salary, which may prove a sticking point. The Spanish side’s hopes of securing Champions League football could be key in turning the deal into reality. Betis sit sixth in La Liga, just outside the top four, with qualification potentially unlocking crucial financial resources to negotiate with United.
