The upcoming Galaxy S25 Edge is supposed to become one of the thinnest smartphones Samsung ever created. It measures about 5.8mm, and judging by an early video of a dummy unit, the Galaxy S25 Edge looks absolutely lightweight next to the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
That's all very exciting, but what about durability? Will the Galaxy S25 Edge bend easily and cause a Bendgate controversy like the one the iPhone 6 was at the center of ten years ago? Well, according to @MaxJmb, future Galaxy S25 Edge buyers have nothing to worry about regarding the phone's rigidity.
Max Jambor stated that Samsung's ultra-thin phone “is solid and can't be bent easily” in a recent X reply to an online article about the Galaxy S25 Edge and Bendgate. Funnily enough, Max added that the phone “will survive JerryRig's bend test.”
As you may know, JerryRigEverything is a YouTuber who puts phones through hell and stress-tests them for weak points. Recent Samsung Galaxy phones have passed JRE's durability tests without issues. And by the sound of it, the Galaxy S25 Edge will, too.

Samsung hasn't said much about the Galaxy S25 Edge, but last month, we exclusively reported that the phone should sport a ceramic back panel. Other reports also say that the next-gen ultra-thin device from Samsung has a titanium midframe, which should improve its durability despite the slim 5.8mm profile.
Samsung already learned from Apple's mistakes a long time ago
The Korean tech giant hasn't focused much on thinness in recent years. Naturally, everyone will want to see how the thin Galaxy S25 Edge performs in durability tests. But if you're expecting another Bendgate, you might end up disappointed.
Bendgate was never a Samsung controversy, to begin with, and besides, the Korean tech giant has learned a lot about smartphone and tablet durability in the past decade or so.
Modern Galaxy phones are durable enough that some of us are confident in using them without a protective case. I used my Galaxy S22+ without a case for an entire year and accidentally dropped it several times without major issue. It's probably not recommended to follow this example if you want to hold on to your device for long, but time and time again, Samsung proved that it knows how to make a resilient phone.
Even the Galaxy Z Flip series thrashed the floor with its competitor when it came to hinge durability, and a foldable phone's hinge should technically be more fragile than a 5.8mm slab-type phone. All in all, you probably have nothing to worry about regarding the durability of the upcoming Galaxy S25 Edge and Bendgate. But in the end, time will tell, and we're looking forward to durability test results.
