Packers push back on Eagles’ ‘Tush Push’ is gaining momentum, NFL insider says

The Eagles’ use of the “Tush Push” has had its detractors over the last three seasons. However, with a proposal on the table for next week’s annual league meeting, one NFL insider says the pushback against the play is legitimate and could make the vote close when owners discuss banning it in Palm Beach, Florida.

On the “Scoop City” podcast with The Athletic’s Dianna Russini and former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel, Russini said there is more talk about banning the play than in previous years.

“I’m hearing that the ‘Tush Push’ is building some momentum,” Russini said. “I know we talked about it here on the show, where I said that I think this probably would not be the year or I could see a change happen. I feel like it’s getting more momentum in terms of those opposed to it than I’ve ever heard before. Usually, it’s like everyone going, ‘Nah, nah, nah,’ and there are those one or two people that sit on it and are against it, but it’s catching fire.”

There have already been tweaks to the play, such as requiring the player pushing the ball carrier to be within one yard of them. However, the Green Bay Packers have proposed banning the play completely.

For the play to be banned, 24 of the 32 owners must vote in favor of the change.
