Ed Sheeran admits he regrets gatecrashing a Sky Sports interview with Ruben Amorim - citing the amount he'd drank as the issue. The music icon is an avid Ipswich fan and minority owner and was present for their draw with Manchester United back in November.
It was also the first game of the Amorim era, ending in a 1-1 draw at Portman Road. There was huge interest around the new United boss and he headed to chat to the Sky Sports staff. He was speaking to presenter Kelly Cates as well as pundits Roy Keane, Izzy Christiansen and Jamie Redknapp before Sheeran made his way into play.
The musician had planned to say hello to Redknapp and was unaware that Amorim was being interviewed at the time. Sheeran also concedes he'd been throwing back the drink in the lead up - claiming his number of pints had hit double digits whilst in the VIP box he has at the stadium.
He said on the Men In Blazers podcast: "I had it gutted and turned into a pub, you don't need to go for pre-drinks anywhere else. And it's definitely got me in trouble sometimes.
"Like that United game where I didn't realise Amorim was getting interviewed. I honestly didn't. Jamie [Redknapp] said come and see me afterwards and I was wandering out afterwards. I'd had about 10 pints, saw Jamie, so I was like ‘Oh, I'll go up and say hi to Jamie’. It was the wrong time - very clearly the wrong time - but I have learned my lesson and it won't happen again."

Sheeran was criticised for his antics and Redknapp said on air that he should "come and say hello in a minute" whilst Cates joked that Amorim may not have wanted his interview to have been interrupted at the stalemate.
24 hours later and Sheeran posted on social media: “Apologies if I offended Amorim yesterday, didn’t realise he was actually being interviewed at the time, was popping to say hi and bye to Jamie. Obz feel a bit of a b****** but life goes on. Great game though, congrats to all involved x.”

Sheeran said during his brief moment on Sky Sports that he "loved being back in the Premier League " but the Tractor Boys appear destined for the drop. The three promoted sides - Leicester, Ipswich and Southampton have been cut adrift from Wolves who sit in 17th.
Ipswich had secured back-to-back promotions under Kieran McKenna, flying up from League One to the top flight, but they were always up against it to remain in the Premier League and look odds-on to be a Championship side once again next season.
