Entering: a bold new era of sport, culture and storytelling. On Monday, April 7, Dazed and Nike will launch Dazed Maxx, the first-ever US edition of Dazed. For the special issue, we invited three athletes at the top of their fields to join us as cultural editors: Sunny Choi, an Olympic breakdancer; Bijan Robinson, a running back for the Atlanta Falcons; and Tobey McIntosh, the mastermind behind Crenshaw Skate Club.
Inside Dazed Maxx, the athletes-turned-cultural editors guide us through the sports subcultures bubbling across New York, Los Angeles and Atlanta, crafting experiments that explore the future of sport through Nike’s new AirImagination platform. There are conversations between the athletes and leaders of subculture groups in their area – including Maggie Chen of New York’s Tai Chi Youth Group, figure skater Ganna Bogdan and Raushan Bennett from the Cascade Dream Team – and articles from local writers Angie Lin, Devine Blacksher and Erin White on what makes the essence of each subcultural hub so unique.
Dazed Maxx brings sports and subculture together in a way that only Nike and Dazed can, with a focus on emerging local sports communities and personal storytelling. To celebrate the collaboration, Nike and Dazed will co-host three simultaneous Dazed Maxx mag drops in Los Angeles, Atlanta and New York on Thursday, April 10. These activations will be open to the public and extend the magazine’s themes into real life – turning the stories from the pages into immersive, city-specific experiences.
