Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be disappointed if his final season at Everton turns out to be remembered like it has.

The one-time England striker has provided some blissful memories during hard times down the years at Goodison Park, having arrived from Sheffield United back in 2016.

He is near testimonial territory. But now, Calvert-Lewin is on the verge of slipping out the back door with barely any impact to his name in his final season, walking away for free just when the light at the end of the tunnel is emerging again.

Calvert-Lewin injury latest emerges

While Calvert-Lewin was on the verge of joining Newcastle United last summer for up to £40million, his stock seemed high and he appeared upbeat.

However, when the deal fell through, he has suffered turmoil with just three goals to his name – droughts and missed chances galore – and now an injury since which the team have improved without him.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

It could be a sorry end to a spell which has built Calvert-Lewin’s career – he clearly has a lot of love for the Toffees – and despite all the frustration levelled his way from the Gwladys Street, he will be wished well when his contract seemingly ebbs to a low-key end.

He will not be short of suitors but will be keen to prove himself further, a hard task right now due to his injury issue, which has been examined by Dr Rajpal Brar exclusively for Goodison News (27 March).

Brar predicts Calvert-Lewin’s “grade 3 hamstring tear” will sideline him until at least mid-April, which will hopefully see no further setbacks.

If there are – which can often be the case with these types of injuries considering how delicate the hamstring is – then there becomes a danger the number nine has already played his final game for Everton.

Everton want Calvert-Lewin to bow out on a high should he leave

All associated with Everton and those in wider football want Calvert-Lewin to end on a high should he leave Merseyside as many expect in the summer.

The 28-year-old is at a key period of his career when his next contract is typically considered to be the major one, and whether that’s at Everton or not, he will be pressuring himself to come back to fitness and end the season well.

Goodison Park has meant as much to Calvert-Lewin as any player, and David Moyes is one of the only figures in the dressing room who recognises that to the same extent.

The manager will want it for him as well, to end his own time at Goodison on a high and leave one or two further memories for the Old Lady – though Beto has now succeeded him as the primary leader of the attack.

Luckily for Calvert-Lewin’s injury timeline, the Premier League season ends over three weeks after that of the EFL, with the final home game on 18 May against Southampton before the season finale away at Newcastle the following week – where the big man could easily have been playing his football this year.
