Ed Sheeran has confessed to enjoying 10 pints before walking in on Ruben Amorim's debut post-match interview live on Sky Sports.

The new Manchester United manager had just seen his team draw with Ipswich when Sheeran, a fan of the Tractor Boys, greeted pundit Jamie Redknapp live on air.

At the time, Sheeran approached Redknapp during the live broadcast, glanced at Amorim, and joked: "I don't think he wants to speak to me!".

Amorim initially offered a smile but seemed less than pleased as Sheeran finally left, reports the Express.

Sheeran, an Ipswich shirt sponsor and 1.4 per cent stakeholder in the club, admitted on the Men In Blazers podcast that transforming his Portman Road executive suite into a pub contributed to his binge before the pitch invasion.

The 34-year-old explained: "I had [the executive suite] gutted and turned into a pub, so you don't need to go for pre-drinks anywhere else. And it's definitely got me in trouble sometimes.

"Like that United game where I didn't realise Amorim was getting interviewed. I honestly didn't.

"Jamie [Redknapp] said come and see him afterwards. I'd had about 10 pints, saw Jamie, so was like, 'Oh, I'll go up and say hi to Jamie'. It was the wrong time - very clearly the wrong time - but I have learned my lesson and it won't happen again."

Sheeran, a lifelong Ipswich fan, faces the very real possibility of seeing his team relegated from the Premier League after just one season. Kieran McKenna's side are nine points adrift of safety and still have to face heavyweights like Chelsea, Arsenal and Newcastle before the season concludes.

On the other hand, United have had a rocky start to the Amorim era and will require a significant improvement in form to finish in the top half of the Premier League. The Red Devils, currently sitting 13th, are seven points behind Bournemouth, who occupy the 10th spot.

United have suffered eight league defeats under Amorim and it is anticipated that a major revamp will take place in the summer to provide the 40 year old with a more robust squad for the next season.
