Memphis currently holds the No. 5 seed in the Western Conference with a 44-29 record, tied with the LA Lakers.
It's a surprising decision when there are nine games left in the regular season, and the team is in a playoff picture. Memphis, though, has lost four games of the last five.
"I'm genuinely appreciative of Taylor's contributions to this team and this city over the past six seasons," said Grizzlies president Zach Kleiman in a statement. "This was a difficult decision, given the consistent and tangible development of our players and overall success under Taylor's leadership. I wish Taylor the very best going forward."
In June 2019, Jenkins became the head coach of the Grizzlies, guiding them to multiple playoff appearances and, in 2022, securing the franchise's first division title.
He surpassed Lionel Hollins in November 2024 to become the Grizzlies' all-time winningest coach. As the Memphis head coach, Jenkins holds the 250-214 record.
His best regular season was in the 2021-22 season, when the team won 56 games out of 82.

Jenkins began his coaching career with the San Antonio Spurs' D-League affiliate, the Austin Toros, where he led the team to a championship in 2012.
He was also the Atlanta Hawks assistant during the 2013-18 period and the assistant of the Milwaukee Bucks for one season, 2018-19.
Finnish coach Tuomas Iisalo should become the Grizzlies' interim head coach.
