Why swapping Brighton for City was a 'no-brainer' for McConville

The young defender was highly rated and was beginning to make appearances in Fabian Hurzeler's Premier League squad, but opted to join City's project on a permanent basis after talks with Johannes Hoff Thorup and Ben Knapper.

McConville's path to regular first-team football at Carrow Road has been set, but the teenager has been forced to show patience as he adapts to life in Norfolk.

Despite playing just 11 minutes since moving to Norwich, McConville has explained why he made the right decision to take the risk of cashing in his chips at the Amex Stadium to join Thorup and Knapper's project.

"Obviously, all that would have gone through my head as well, but I just felt that this was the right thing for me," McConville told the [Pink Un](https://www.pinkun.com/).

"After speaking to Johannes and Ben, it just felt right for me. It was something that did really excite me. I felt it was a great opportunity that I didn't want to turn down, and I thought I might regret it in the future if I didn't take it.

"Brighton is such an amazing club and I can't thank them enough for what they've done for me, but I just felt that this was right. Hopefully, if I can get in and get playing, then it will only be best for me."

City's boss has [previously explained](https://www.pinkun.com/sport/interviews/24962160.norwich-city-mcconville-brighton-move-ticked-boxes/) that a meeting with McConville, his family and representatives convinced him to push for his signing, and that feeling was mutual from the defender's perspective.

"We were blown away as well from everything that he said to us and everything that goes on in the training ground. It filled me with real excitement. It was a no-brainer for me from that point onwards.

"That's probably when things really took a step forward and sped on a bit, and we got things sorted after that."
