Ex-Chelsea midfielder and manager Frank Lampard has been tipped for one of the biggest jobs in English football as he enjoys a successful stint with Championship side Coventry City.
The 46-year-old has had two spells in charge of Chelsea; the first between 2019 and 2021 and the second as their caretaker in 2023. In November last year, he was appointed as head coach of Coventry, and is currently battling it out to qualify for promotion via play-offs.
On Friday night, his in-form team are in action against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane and Chris Wilder has plenty of positive things to say about the former Chelsea man. The Blades boss even went as far as saying he could manage the England national team one day, with Thomas Tuchel only in charge until after the 2026 World Cup.
"I just love the fact that he [Lampard] loves football and it shines through that he does, whatever job he takes," Wilder told BBC Sport.
"People are critical of him and I just don't get it. He could quite easily manage England in my opinion.
"It's proving to be an inspired choice of manager. Coventry City have arguably one of the best groups of players in this division and that's being shown now."
Coventry have eight matches remaining in the Championship this season and are currently fifth in the table. Only the top two are promoted automatically, with third to six required to battle it out in the play-offs.
The Sky Blues last reached the play-off final in 2023 under their former manager Mark Robins, but were beaten on penalties by Luton Town. Last season, they finished ninth and nine points off the play-offs.
This season, the battle for promotion is extremely tight and Lampard has a significant task on his hands. While his side are currently among the favourites to finish in the top six, just eight points separates them and 12th as things stand.
