Mark Cuban takes shot at Mavericks’ ownership group over broken promise

The Dallas Mavericks are still dealing with one of the biggest PR disasters in the recent history of the NBA. Trading Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis was viewed as one of the worst trades in the history of the NBA.

Former Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, who had nothing to do with the move, believes it was a mistake. Additionally, the new Mavericks' owners, the Adelson's, originally told Cuban he would be responsible for basketball operations still, a promise that has not been kept.

“I fully expected to run basketball,” Cuban said. “The NBA wouldn’t let me put it in the contract. They took it out,” Cuban wrote. “I thought [the Adelsons] would stick to their word because they didn’t know the first thing about running a team. Someone obviously changed their mind.”

Cuban responded to a disgruntled fan on Facebook, talking about how he lost money almost every season he was the team's majority owner.

“I found it extremely interesting that someone would jump into my Facebook post on my personal page, who I'm not even friends with,” Mulloy said via WFAA. “I never in a million years thought Mark Cuban was gonna jump in a Facebook thread and start answering questions.”

Not only did Cuban oppose the move, he tried to stop it from happening.

Dallas Mavericks big man Anthony Davis returned to the lineup after an 18-game absence. He decided to come back because the team was shorthanded.

“We just (didn’t) have enough bodies,” Davis said. “Kessler Edwards is playing the five. Naji is playing the five. (It) added a little bit more motivation for me. I was already motivated to get back, but it added a little bit more motivation seeing those guys battle each and every night and leaving it on the floor. There was no doubt in my mind I was going to come back.”

The Mavericks are going to be without Kyrie Irving for the remainder of the season due to an ACL tear. Davis weighed in on the situation.

“It was devastating,” Davis said. “Kyrie is a phenomenal basketball player but, even more, a phenomenal human. Anytime anyone goes through something like that, an injury like that, it always sucks. Obviously, the initial injury, the initial moment, you want to give him space. … Now he’s excited about the rehab process.

Davis is aiming to show Mavericks fans that they can count on him.
