Chiefs’ Offseason Announcement Draws Disappointed Reaction From Fans

The Kansas City Chiefs headed into Super Bowl LIX on the brink of making NFL history as the first team to ever win a three-peat. After clinching their ninth consecutive AFC West title and most regular season wins in franchise history (15), another Chiefs' victory seemed inevitable.

After Kansas City defeated the San Francisco 49ers in last year's Super Bowl, and announced their goal of a three-peat, the Chiefs agreed to allow "unprecedented access into the players' lives on and off the field" to create a six-part docuseries of the team's historic run.

The Chiefs revealed on March 28 that the docuseries is expected to premiere later this year on ESPN and Disney+.

Due to the fact that the Philadelphia Eagles crushed the Chiefs 40-22 in the Super Bowl, with quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Co. unable to put any points on the board until after falling to a 34-0 deficit in the third quarter, many fans don't want to relive this past season.

One fan wrote, "Watching this like I watch Revenge of the Sith. Knowing how it ends but praying some how this time will be different." Another person posted, "so we get to relive the pain all over again, yay." One man commented, "Gonna be a great show but we all know it's gonna have a [expletive] ending so that sucks." Another fan asked, "Did it HAVE to be the losing season."

Some fans don't want to watch at all. One woman wrote, "Gonna skip this one." Another Chiefs fan added, "Don't really feel like reliving this season personally."

Obviously, this docuseries would've been a lot more epic if the Chiefs won a historic three-peat. However, the ESPN Original Series, produced by Words + Pictures in association with Skydance Sports, NFL Films, 2PM Productions -- Mahomes' production company, and Foolish Club Studios, moved forward with it anyway.

Burke Magnus, president of content of ESPN said in a statement, "ESPN and Disney+ know that sports fans are interested in stories that take them beyond the X's and O's, and this series will explore the legacy of the Chiefs franchise while also showcasing the emotional highs and lows of building a championship-winning team."
