Jonathan David has been linked with some of the biggest Premier League clubs in the previous year and the striker has finally talked about his future and his hopes for taking the next step in his career.

The striker has been lighting up the Ligue 1 for the past five seasons and after scoring 107 goals in 224 games for the club, David is finally looking for a new challenge. His contract expires at the end of this campaign and he’s not going to put pen on paper to an extension.

Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs and even West Ham United have been keeping tabs on the 25-year-old and Jonathan David, while talking to the media has revealed his ambitions of playing for the biggest clubs in Europe.

“If I do end up going, I have to push myself to play at the very highest level,” David said after Canada’s win over the United States. “After that, obviously when you play at a big club, your position is never guaranteed and you need to fight. I’m never guaranteed anywhere I go to start or play every game. I have to perform and I’m willing to fight. I know it’s an important year, it’s a big decision, so I’ll make a wise decision.”

Which PL club should Jonathan David choose if he wants to play in England?

Apart from the five Premier League clubs, clubs like Juventus, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have also been linked with the striker but the moment, a transfer to England seems the most logical bet for the Canadian international.

Keeping in line with his ambitions, a move to Liverpool will be very tempting for Jonathan David because the misfiring Darwin Nunez will be sold in the summer. David has all the attributes to come in and lead the line at Anfield but Arne Slot is looking at other more impactful options. Liverpool are being linked with top strikers such as Osimhen, Sesko and Gyokeres and at the moment Jonathan David is only a backup on their wishlist.

The same is true for Manchester United and Chelsea because like Liverpool these two are also keen to sign a more heavyweight centre-forward. They are willing to spend top money to bring in a new centre-forward and a free agent like Jonathan David won’t pique their interest too much.

A move to United, Liverpool or Chelsea might seem like a distant dream but the 25-year-old can be the ideal signing for a team like West Ham United or Tottenham. Both these sides will have to work on a limited transfer budget and they will relish the opportunity to sign an in-form goalscorer for free.

The Canadian international would love to play for one of the big boys in England but if the choice is between Spurs and West Ham, he won’t be too keen to join either one of them. Jonathan David has played in the Champions League this season for Lille and by joining one of the two London teams, he will have to miss out on European football altogether next season.

Any player who’s joining a side on a free transfer primarily wants two things – a high salary package and top-tier European football but West Ham and Spurs might not be able to offer either of the two luxuries.

We would like to believe that if Jonathan David does not get the opportunity to join Liverpool, Chelsea or Manchester United, he will prefer to move to the Serie A and play for someone like Inter or Juventus.
