Stefon Diggs Excited by Drake Maye Being Compared to Josh Allen

The New England Patriots just signed Stefon Diggs to be their top wide receiver and a big reason why he signed with the team may be because of quarterback Drake Maye.

In his introductory press conference for signing with the Patriots, Diggs talked about what had him excited to sign with the team as he heard Maye has a similar personality to his former quarterback Josh Allen when he played for the Buffalo Bills.

"It's crazy, cause when you ask around, he [Maye] has a lot of similarities, well people say through the grapevine that he acts a lot like Josh. That was my guy, so I look forward to meeting him and connecting with him," Diggs stated.

Comparing the two quarterbacks is especially interesting as coming out of the draft, Maye was often compared to Allen as a prospect because of his raw athletic ability and great arm.

If Diggs and Maye can have anything close to a similar connection as Diggs and Allen, the Patriots offense should be in line for a dramatic turnaround.

The veteran receiver had the best season of his career with Allen in Buffalo back in 2020, when he put up 1,535 yards, 127 receptions, and eight touchdowns. In his four seasons with Buffalo, he put up over 100 receptions each season and at least eight touchdowns each year.

The Patriots receiving core is very unproven beyond Diggs, so it will be interesting to see how bringing in a solid veteran will help the receiving core out.

The team also brought in Mack Hollins, another former Buffalo receiver, and will be hoping to get more out of young receivers Kayshon Boutte, Demario Douglas, Ja'Lynn Polk, and Javon Baker.

Allen did take a season or two to develop and it wasn't until the Bills acquired Diggs that he really took off, so it will be interesting to see how much of an impact Diggs has on Allen, even with his older age and tough recent injury history.

The Patriots will be looking to add even more to the receiving core most likely, but more likely through the draft rather than in free agency at this point in the offseason.

With the fourth overall pick, the team's ideal pick seems to be Travis Hunter, who would help out Maye tremendously as well as potentially help form an incredible cornerback trio.

The team could also pursue a receiver like Tetairoa McMillan, a Mike Evans and Drake London-like receiver.

Overall, the Patriots should be extremely excited about these comments from Diggs and the potential of the Patriots offense next season with Drake Maye at the helm.

However, more work needs to be done to the receiving core and the offensive line to truly unlock the offense and reach the heights of the Josh Allen-Diggs-led offenses.
