Spurs Fans React After Surprising Victor Wembanyama Announcement

The San Antonio Spurs, despite the fight they've played with in recent weeks, had their season effectively ended over All-Star Weekend when superstar Victor Wembanyama was diagnosed with a blood clot in his shoulder, ending his season.

The Spurs seemed optimistic that Wembanyama would return, perhaps better than ever, at the start of next season and would focus on improving as much as he can during the offseason. On Thursday, however, a shocking announcement was made.

According to French reporter Sami Sadik, Wembanyama will be looking to play for France in the EuroBasket tournament, which is one of the premier international tournaments.

After making the Gold Medal Game at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Wembanyama solidified France as an international basketball force, and with Germany, Serbia, Slovenia, and Greece all gunning for a Euro title, it's understandable that Wemby would want to play.

However, Spurs fans seem to think it's a bad idea.

"Let him rest for love of god," posted a fan.

"I've tried to be empathetic when it comes to Wemby playing Euro ball.," posted another. "But, I'm going to be selfish and double down. I DON'T WANT WEMBY PLAYING BALL THIS SUMMER We need him to recover and build strength for next season. I think this will only slow down his development."

While fans can certainly empathize with his international goals, it seems like the risk is weighing heavily. However, it should be noted that if he was not 100 percent cleared by the Spurs' medical staff, he likely wouldn't be allowed to play this summer, and maybe in-game conditioning would do him well.
